What is Ankylosing Spondylitis?
Causes Of Ankylosing Spondylitis:
Ankylosing spondylitis has no known specific cause, though genetic factors seem to be involved. In particular, people who have a gene called HLA-B27 are at greatly increased risk of developing ankylosing spondylitis
Sign and Symptom:
The spinal and sacroiliac joints are primarily affected, resulting in pain, stiffness, fatigue, loss of movement and function.
Bone gradually forms in the outer layers of the annulus fibrous and the anterior longitudinal ligament and as the disease progresses, the vertebrae fuse together.
"Bamboo spine" is the term commonly used to describe its appearance on the X-ray. The diseases are more common in young males.
