Hi,

If you have any question, feel free write on the comment section.

What is Ankylosing Spondylitis?

A chronic inflammatory disease of synovial joints, involving the capsule and its attached ligaments and tendons.

Causes Of Ankylosing Spondylitis:

Ankylosing spondylitis has no known specific cause, though genetic factors seem to be involved. In particular, people who have a gene called HLA-B27 are at greatly increased risk of developing ankylosing spondylitis

Sign and Symptom:

The spinal and sacroiliac joints are primarily affected, resulting in pain, stiffness, fatigue, loss of movement and function.

Bone gradually forms in the outer layers of the annulus fibrous and the anterior longitudinal ligament and as the disease progresses, the vertebrae fuse together.
"Bamboo spine" is the term commonly used to describe its appearance on the X-ray. The diseases are more common in young males.

Treatment of Ankylosing Spondylitis:

Medications. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) — such asnaproxen (Naprosyn) and indomethacin (Indocin) — are the medications doctors most commonly use to treat ankylosing spondylitis. They can relieve your inflammation, pain, and stiffness. However, these medications might cause gastrointestinal bleeding.

Treatment through Physical Therapy:

The most important thing physical therapy can provide is helping with respect to self-management of ankylosing spondylitis." Specific strategies of physical therapy for AS include Posture education. Stretching exercises to keep joints healthy
