Hi
Welcome to Only 24 hours in a day.

Today our topics is about the disease called Bell's Palsy.

What is Bell's Palsy?

An acute, lower motor neuron paralysis of a face usually unilateral, related to inflammation and swelling of the facial nerve 7 within a facial Canal or at the stylomastoid foramen.

Bell’s palsy is a condition that causes temporary weakness or paralysis of the muscles in the face. It can occur when the nerve that controls your facial muscles becomes inflamed, swollen, or compressed.
The condition causes one side of your face to droop or becomes stiff. You may have difficulty smiling or closing your eye on the affected side. In most cases, Bell’s palsy is temporary and symptoms usually go away after a few weeks.

Causes Of Bell's Palsy:

It may result when a virus, usually the herpes virus, inflames the nerve. This is the same virus that causes cold sores and genital herpes. Other viruses that have been linked to Bell's palsy include: chickenpox and shingles virus

Sign and Symptom:

Symptoms include inability to close their eyes on the effective side, hyperacusis, and impairment of Taste. Good recovery is common. The symptoms of Bell’s palsy can develop one to two weeks after you have a coldear infection, or eye infection. They usually appear abruptly, and you may notice them when you wake up in the morning or when you try to eat or drink.
Other signs and symptoms of Bell’s palsy include:
  • drooling
  • difficulty eating and drinking
  • an inability to make facial expressions, such as smiling or frowning
  • facial weakness
  • muscle twitches in the face
  • dry eye and mouth
  • a headache
  • sensitivity to sound
  • irritation of the eye on the involved side
Call your doctor immediately if you develop any of these symptoms.

Treatment Of Bell's Palsy:

Commonly used medications to treat Bell's palsy include: Corticosteroids, such as prednisone, are powerful anti-inflammatory agents. If they can reduce the swelling of the facial nerve, it will fit more comfortably within the bony corridor that surrounds it.
Thanks.
